Daaaaaaamn, unity is fucking DYING!

i don't *hate* discourse, but I certainly don't love it either. Other discourse based forums I've used are just "meh." On a surface level it may be a little more aesthetically pleasing, but I find it more of a pain to actually find things on.

2025: Unity Are Being Closed.

It is impressive how good Unity is at marketing for their competitors, lol. Even if most of the data is moved over I expect that this will really hurt the searchability of the data, The huge amount of info online for unity is really it's main advantage over it's competitors and is mostly what makes it more accessible to new users then the other engines. In many ways Godot is just as easy to use or even more so, but it was way harder to start using because the documentation just cannot cover everything and there is way less info online for it then unity. Overall I think that this is a bad thing for Unity to be doing right now after all of the other things that they have been doing to push people away. Personally I do not really care as I have managed to pretty much entirely switch over to Godot now. I only use unity now to maintain a couple of old projects.

Well...well.well...Unity is slowly dying. They have taken the console build out of the new free Unity engine & now they are destroying the Unity forums. They have changed their TOS again & not necessarily for the good. Let's see what they do next to destroy themselves.

If you've ever read Unity docs they 404 all the time because they can't figure out where things go. I have no faith in this.

Last year is maybe the worst year in the history of Unity, sadly Unreal need high end hardware to work and i cant migrate for this.

I like Godot a lot but to be honest, Unity still has the best workflow and documentation IMHO (aside from render pipelines)... So I hope it will remain in a usable state.

Hopefully everyone manages to archive the old posts. Because otherwise, I don't feel bad for these kind of forums and StackOverflow being used as training material for ChatGPT. Granted, it still sucks a bit, but for certain topics (like single-player game modding), you are less likely to get a toxic response. Unreal Engine got rid of the old Unreal forums, and as a result, a load of old Unreal Engine 4 and UDK stuff is no longer available to reference.

I think your history missed the time they killed the original forum too, replaced it with some hideous 3rd party gamification-based system that wasnt up to the job, and had to u-turn on the decision and reopen the original. This was a separate event to the time they killed the Answers site.

I don't even use unity at all I probably downloaded like one or two times but never actually fully got into it so I don't even know why I'm even here in the first place? That's the strangest part of this! Like why should I care about something that I'm late I'm not even using or invested in it at all 100%! Perhaps I'm here to educate myself on what type of game engines not to really get yourself into and or apps guess this can be any other app as well! And I guess that's the one thing that brings me here it's to learn why if I would have invested in this I would have been screwed at some point and this is that point right now!

Sadly the internet has also been moving away from page buttons, which are in every way superior to infinite scrolling, as they allow you to skipping ahead, pick up where you left off, keep memory usage low, etc...

I totally agree with you: Forums are great. The best and fastest way to get information and solutions. But it is sad that they seem to slowly lose popularity. The coolest thing is, that the forum's information stays online, and you can always search for _whatever_ you need to find. It is very hard to come up with a question on stackoverflow that wasn't asked before already. :)

A lesson to any software maker or dev... once your community is already rallied around something, you are probably hurting yourself if you try to change that thing.

Unity and changing things no one wanted changed - name a more iconic duo. If the web dev team is bored how about they fix the archaic UX of the asset store instead? It's embarrassing to go back to the Unity Asset Store when you've used Unreal Marketplace.

They are not closing the forums but transitioning to a new platform. They will migrate content. It remains to be seen if the change works though. Time will tell.

I made games for over 7 years and used it so much, thankful it was there, but these days Chat GPT is answering everything needed. RIP Unity forums there were some really good developers on there, helped me so much...

I actually considered coming back to Unity, because my games (if there are ever any) will NEVER reach their threshold. But this is just stupid. Welcome back, Godot.
